What To Expect When You’re Expecting [Me To Be Your Documentary Wedding Photographer]

I believe that your wedding deserves to be lived, not performed. It’s likely the one moment in your lives where everyone you love will be together, celebrating your relationship. They want you to experience it with them, and I do too (plus, it makes for the best wedding photos).

Below, you’ll learn more about how I work as a candid documentary wedding photographer and what to expect from start to finish.

  • Before you book, we’ll connect through a call or email to discuss your plans, priorities, and what matters most to you.

If we decide to work together, we’ll schedule another call to talk and discuss your plans in further detail. Getting to know each other can be an important part of creating photos that feel true to you.

As your wedding day approaches, I’ll go over your timeline with you and help you build a family photo list that fits seamlessly into your celebration, ensuring everything flows naturally.

If possible, we can meet up for an engagement session at no extra cost. It’s a great chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and enjoy a coffee or drink together.

  • I’ll arrive and introduce myself to your family and friends.

My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable, blend in, and capture what’s happening naturally. I don’t interrupt moments or prompt you unless needed.

I’m always ready, anticipating the big and small moments while paying attention to the important details.

I come prepared with professional cameras, lenses, lighting, and backups to ensure your day is captured seamlessly. All digital images are copied to dual SD card slots, ensuring they’re backed up instantly.

  • To ensure your memories are safe, every photo is backed up to multiple hard drives and secure online storage immediately after your wedding.

Within 24-48 hours, you’ll receive a preview of select images.

Your full set of edited, high-resolution wedding photos will be delivered within 3-4 weeks via a password-protected online wedding gallery, licensed to print, and ready for you to download and share with friends and family. Shortly after, you’ll receive a soft-cover coffee table magazine featuring select images.

FAQS

  • I take a calm, unobtrusive approach, blending into the background to document your day as it naturally unfolds. My goal is to capture authentic moments without interfering while making sure people are comfortable enough around me to be themselves. I’ve been called human Prozac on more than one occasion.

  • I focus on capturing candid, real moments rather than posing or staging shots. My goal is to create a collection of images that feel true to you and won’t look like any other wedding but yours.

  • My editing style is true-to-life. I strive to reflect the changing environment throughout the day, ensuring your photos look and feel like your real wedding. Each image is individually edited by hand, treated as a piece of art that stands on its own. My color grading for digital images closely mirrors the film stocks that I use, including Kodak Portra, Kodak Gold, Fuji 400h, and Kodak Tri-X.

For my film work, I use a trusted local lab for processing, ensuring the highest quality with no risk of it being lost in transit. After processing, I personally scan each negative and convert them into positive images. This hands-on process ensures that every one of your film scans accurately reflects the characteristics of the film stock.

  • Meeting in person or virtually isn’t required but highly recommended. It’s a great way to get to know each other and make sure we’re aligned on your vision for the day. I believe that it’s important for you to be able to build a rapport with your wedding photographer, especially since we’re with you more than almost anyone else on the day.

  • Wedding photography coverage starts at $6,500.

This includes full-day coverage on digital and film, carefully curated and edited photos, a high-resolution online gallery licensed to download and print, a custom soft-cover coffee table magazine and more.

Custom packages are available to fit the unique details of your day. I’d love to chat about your wedding plans—feel free to reach out through my inquiry form.

  • I suggest choosing someone who shares the same candid, documentary vision that you and I do - staying unobtrusive and allowing the day to flow naturally.

  • Family portrait sessions should mirror the rest of your day—easygoing and full of meaningful moments. We’ll plan ahead and create a list of must-have groupings to keep everything flowing smoothly. That way, you and your loved ones can enjoy the moment and return to the celebration without missing a beat.

  • The space where you get ready plays a big role in your wedding photos. Choose a location with natural light and enough room for you to feel comfortable. If your venue isn’t ideal, I recommend considering an Airbnb or hotel suite with large windows.

  • Absolutely! Whether it’s the next state over or a destination wedding across the globe, I’m happy to be there. Travel costs will depend on the location and can be discussed during booking.
